Job summary

utilities team. In this role you will be responsible for operating excavators and similar heavy machinery to perform tasks such a digging, trenching, grading, and earthmoving. This role is essential for site preparation, infrastructure development and various civil engineering projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of machine operation, safety protocols, and site coordination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate plant to excavate, move, and load earth or materials
  • Carry out digging operations for foundations, trenches for pipework, ducts, cables and other utility infrastructure.
  • Follow project plans, site drawings, and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Adhere strictly to health & safety protocols, including CAT & Genny use and PPE compliance.
  • Would be expected to assist with all other on-site tasks when not driving.
  • Report hazards, defects, or near misses promptly to supervisors.

Qualifications

  • Valid UK driver’s licence (preferred).
  • Valid CSCS (essential).
  • Experience operating plant (essential).
  • Valid CPCS or NPORS card (essential) .
  • Experience working on civils or utilities projects (preferred).
  • Understanding of safe excavation practices (near utilities, confined spaces).

  • Reliable and punctual with good communications skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and spatial awareness.

As a Ground Worker, you will play a key role in supporting civil engineering and utility installations projects. This hands-on role involves working on-site to prepare and maintain construction area, lay foundations, install drainage, and assist in utility installations such as water, electricity, or gas.

  • Perform groundwork duties including trenching, concreting, laying tarmac, and reinstatement.
  • Lay and repair drainage and other utility services.
  • Assist with the installation of pipes, ducts, and cables.
  • Operate hand tools and basic machinery safety and effectively.
  • Follow project plans, site drawings, and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Maintain a clean and safe worksite in compliance with health and safety regulations.

Job summary

We are seeking a proactive and experienced site supervisor who is not afraid to get stuck in and lead by example. This is hands on role where you’ll be overseeing site activities, supporting teams, and ensuring works are delivered safely, on time, and to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support daily on-site operations.
  • Manage staff, providing guidance, support, and performance feedback, monitor site performance and quality, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Undertake inspections. Carry out site inductions, Toolbox Talks and Daily Briefings.
  • Work alongside side teams to ensure tasks are completed efficiently.
  • Ensure correct setup of site, enforce health and safety policies and perform safety checks.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and site personnel.
  • Report progress and issues to Project Manager.
  • Interpret and implement technical designs; resolve on-site design conflicts.

Qualifications

  • Valid UK driver’s licence (preferred).
  • Valid CSCS Card (essential).
  • SSSTS or SMSTS certification (essential).
  • Extensive civil works experience (essential).

Skills & Competencies

  • Willingness to take a hands-on approach and lead from the front.
  • Strong management skills with the ability to lead a diverse team effectively.
  • Strong technical understanding of: Cable ducting routes, Earthing systems, Grid transformer foundations, all excavation works, and formation works for new developments.
  • Excellent organisational abilities and attention to detail.
  • Strong H&S awareness.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Able to work as part of a team as well as autonomously.
  • Excellent communication with clients, teams, and suppliers.
